Treatment

For my final project I will be attempting to create an animation in which my character is trippin' and going states of paranoia, claustrophobia, etc. all while watching a Talking Heads concert on his television. He will also go on adventures in which he dances with skeletons (subject to change) inspired by the lead singer's, David Byrne, on stage performance, and also to a bar called "Heaven." I got my inspiration from the Talking Heads: Stop Making Sense concert DVD. I'm a huge fan of talking heads, and their performance vocally as well as visually sparks a lot of creative interpretations and ideas in my head.
The character is going to start out in his living room, sitting on a couch, watching static on his television. His living room is going to be just a couch and television in a dark room. I plan on trying to have the light from the tv as the only illumination in the scene, but Andre or the internet will have to help me understand how to create that effect. The character will be zoned out, but be startled by something he hears behind him. Sounds of laughter and footsteps will occur around him, but whenever he turns to look nothing is there. After trying to play it off the different shot sizes ranging from extreme long-shot to extreme close-up will give the effect of claustrophobia. From there the character will turn on the Talking Heads DVD in an attempt to escape these feelings. He will turn on the song "Take Me To The River" and his couch will turn into a boat in the water. Quickly he changes the channel to "What A Day It Was" ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fzvlo-RU9v8 )  This song is what inspired my idea for this animation. The performance of "What A Day It Was" in the DVD is epic. The vocals are filled with epic harmonies that are very passionate and entertaining. This is where he will be dancing which skeletons in his imagination, but in reality he's just sitting on his couch vibe'n. I also plan on rotoscoping a lot of the performance and showing the performance in the reflection of his eyes and point of view shots. After this scene is done he will change the song to "Heaven." He will be instinctively following people that are walking like zombies to a bar in the distance called "Heaven." Once he enters the bar it will be very "floaty" motions of his body, like a lava lamp. While he is walking to the bar and in the bar there will be shots of the Talking Heads performing as parallel actions and when he is watching them in the bar. The animation will end in the bar. The last line of the song is, "Heaven is a place where nothing, nothing ever happens," and as that song is playing it will fade back to him asleep on the couch.
I plan to involve as many techniques as I can, including techniques I don't know how to execute, but hopefully Andre will help me out. I want to show parts of the concert, and in order to do that I plan on rotoscoping the video in photoshop and then bringing it into after effects. This time when I'm rotoscroping I'm going to try to get my hands on one of those pads you can draw on so hopefully I can save some time by not using a mouse to outline everything. Also parenting will play a huge part as I animate my character through different sceens and situations. I would also like yo use 3D cameras for arching shots. I'm sure there are plenty of techniques I will have to use that I haven't even thought of. This will be a big, tedious learning experience, but I plan on spending a butt load of time on it. I'm hoping it will be about 4-5 minutes but it may be even more. Right now I'm shooting for mars instead of the moon, and I know it may bight me in the ass, but if I can't do it all then atleast I have come up with some good ideas that I will be able to use.
